Mystery Hexagon Quilt 2025 Introduction

Welcome to our 5th Jemima’s Creative Quilting Mystery Hexagon Quilt Sew Along!

I am changing it up again this year with a monochromatic quilt in shades of blue! I love a blue quilt but have yet to make one with hexagons.

Liberty of London produces beautiful Lasenby Cotton fabric, created especially for quilting, so I will be using blues from various collections.

This 2025 Hexagon Quilt Sew Along, will be presented every 3 weeks to enable you to complete each part.

Part 1 will be available on Monday 3rd of March 2025 and a new part will be posted on the blog on a Monday every 3 weeks. There will be 12 Parts in total plus borders. These posts are available for you to view for free.

Due to the amount of time it takes to create all the Mystery Quilt content and patterns, this year the free post will only contain the required Hexagon quantities per fabric plus a picture of the finished part.

There will not be a breakdown of how the pieces are made and put together.

The breakdown of how the pieces are made and put together in detail will only be available in the PDF pattern available for purchased of each part.

Downloadable PDF

Once again I will have available a printable PDF full detailed version of each part that you can purchase and download immediately on the website for $2.50 per pattern. There will be a link at the end of each post.

Direct Email Service

We are not offering a direct to your email service of each pattern this year as we now have PayPal on our website for those of you who prefer to purchase this way or are not in Australia.

Quilt Size

You can make this quilt in any size hexagon as long as you use the same size hexagon throughout the entire quilt. We all have a favourite size we like to use and often already have lots of pre-cut papers.

The size of the quilt depends on the size of the Hexagon used.

The approximate finished size of the quilt without borders is listed for each hexagon size.

¾ inch Hexagons                   51 x 59 inches

1 inch Hexagons                    68 x 74.5 inches

1 ¼ inch Hexagons                85 x 93 inches

1 ½ inch Hexagons              102 x 112 inches

Hexagons

You will need approximately 2045 hexagons in total for the entire quilt, however you will be able to reuse the hexagons so you will only need enough to be on the outside edges. I like to have about 500 on hand so I can be selective on where I will pull out my papers to re-use.

Fabric Requirements and Fabric Choices

These are the fabrics and colours I am using

Fabric colours

Use your favourite fabric colours and create your own legend to replace my colours with your own.

I have created a guide for the Fabric Quantities for different size hexagons

The cutting guide is based on squares cut per 42 inch strip.  The squares per strip can be used as a guide only.  If you cut less Hexagons per strip you will need more fabric. If you cut larger squares than those in the chart you will also need more fabric.

fabric cutting chart

The fabric quantities represent the total fabric required for each colour, for example you will need 90cm of Navy Blue fabric for ¾ inch Hexagons, the total which can be made up of scraps, fat 1/4's, 8 Fat 1/8's or meterage/yardage.

Conversion from cm to yards

90cm is approximately 1 yard

180cm is approximately 2 yards

240cm is approximately 2 3/4 yards

315cm is approximately 3 1/2 yards

Hi I have nearly finished 2024 and made it scrappy from my stash. Do you think this year's quilt will lend itself to scraps? I can either use just one colour but many fabrics or rainbow it by sections. Any thoughts?
