The Design Story

Daffodils and Dragonflies is a Kansas Troubles Quilters collection for Moda Fabrics, inspired by Lynne Hagmeier's discovery of a shaded floral antique quilt at an estate sale that she described as evoking a feeling of walking through a watercolour garden full of life. The 9704-14 coordinate is a small-scale rosebud scatter set against a deep charcoal-navy ground, designed to function as a tonal blender that anchors the richer statement prints in the range. At this scale and value depth, the fabric sits comfortably as a calm background print or a contrasting coordinate alongside the cream and tan colourways in the collection. Jemima's Creative Quilting selected this navy coordinate because dark-ground backgrounds are perennially useful for makers building traditional medallion quilts, scrappy blocks, or bordered lap quilts where a deep anchor colour is essential. The non-directional scatter makes rotary cutting efficient and waste-free, even in complex piecing projects.
