Size 20, is for thicker threads and the tapered shaft creates an opening for the thread as it is brought through the fabric.
Size 22 is slightly shorter and the shaft of the needle is slightly smaller and can be used for plied threads when using a laying tool.
Size 24 is great for beginner crewel embroidery
