Fabric A - Red with White Print

Fabric B - White with Red Print

Sashing - Red

General Directions

Read through all instructions before beginning. Sew all seams with a ¼ inch seam allowance. Instructions are for fabric 44 inches wide. Cut all fabrics the width of fabric (WOF) unless otherwise stated.


Cutting Instructions

Background

Cut 1 strip 4 ½ x WOF. Cut 4 squares 4 ½ x 4 ½.


Cut 2 strips 5 ¼ x WOF. Cut 8 squares 5 ¼ x 5 ¼ from each strip.

A total of 16 squares. Cut each square into 4 triangles, a total of 64 triangles.


Fabric A - Red with White Print

Cut 2 strips 5 ¼ x WOF. Cut 6 squares 5 ¼ x 5 ¼ from each strip.

A total of 12 squares. Cut each square into 4 triangles, a total of 48 triangles.


Cut 1 strip 6 1/8 x WOF. Cut 4 squares 6 1/8 x 6 1/8.

Fabric B - White with Red Print

Cut 1 strip 5 ¼ x WOF. Cut 4 squares 5 ¼ x 5 ¼ from the strip.

Cut each square into 4 triangles, a total of 16 triangles.


Cut 1 strip 4 7/8 x WOF. Cut 8 squares 4 7/8 x 4 7/8.

Cut each square into 2 rectangles. A total of 16 rectangles.


Sashing - Red

Cut 1 strip 2 ½ x WOF.

Cut 3 rectangles 2 ½ x 16 ½.


Border 1 - Red

Cut 5 strips 2 ½ x WOF.


Border 2 - White with Red Print

Cut 6 strips 6 ½ x WOF.


Binding

Cut 6 strips 2 ½ x WOF.


Make the Blocks

To Make 1 block you will need


16 Background 5 ¼ triangles

4 Background 4 ½ squares

12 Fabric A 5 ¼ triangles

1 Fabric A 6 1/8 square

4 Fabric B 5 ¼ triangles

4 Fabric B 4 7/8 triangles















Rectangles – Make 4

With the 5 ¼ triangles make 4 rectangles using the diagram as a guide for placement to sew the triangles together to make a rectangle that measures 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches.



Centre Square

To make the Centre Square you need 4 triangles 4 7/8 Fabric B and 1 square 6 1/8 Fabric A.

Sew a triangle to opposite sides of the 6 1/8 square. Press triangles open.

Sew a triangle to the remaining sides of the 6 1/8 square. Press triangles open.









Using the block diagram as a guide sew a 4 ½ square to each end of 2 rectangles, ensuring the orientation is correct. Sew a rectangle on each side of the centre square.

















Sew all 3 rows together, butting all intersecting seams.

Make 4 blocks this way in total.


Sashing

Join a sashing rectangle between blocks 1 and 2 and between blocks 2 and 3 and between blocks 3 and 4


Border 1

Join 4 strips together end to end. From this long strip cut the following;

2 strips 2 ½ x 70 ½. Sew to each side of the runner.

From the remaining strip cut 2 strips 2 ½ x 20 ½. Sew to the top and bottom of the runner.


Border 2

Join 6 strips together end to end. From this long strip cut the following;

2 strips 6 ½ x 74 ½. Sew to each side of the runner.

2 strips 6 ½ x 32 ½. Sew to the top and bottom of the runner.


Quilting

Quilt runner in method of your choice


Binding

Join all strips together end to end. Press in half length ways wrong sides together and sew raw edge to quilted runner front. Turn folded edge to the back of the quilt and hand sew close.
