Welcome to Part 10 of our 2024 Mystery Hexagon Quilt!
Â
This main Hexagon part of the quilt has been completed. This final part is about Borders
Â
What to do next
Â
If you are happy with the size of your quilt you can leave the quilt as it is and quilt it.
Once quilted you can then decide whether to trim the quilt edges straight and bind or bind all the angled edges
Â
Add Border/Borders
Â
If you would like to make your quilt larger you have a couple of options for adding borders
Â
Â
Border Option 1
Â
Trim your quilt on all sides to make a rectangular quilt. How much you trim is up to you.
Before trimming remove all papers and open up all seam allowances on the outside hexagons.
Â
Measure your quilt and add the appropriate size borders depending on your hexagon size
You can add as many borders as you like.
Â
 Border Option 2
Â
Applique the quilt top onto a border. Â This method maintains all the angled shapes of the quilt.
It also allows you to add additional borders if required.
Â
Tip
Press the edges of the quilt with a spray starch. Then remove all papers, leaving the edges turned under all the way around.Â
This ensures the turned under edges remain crisp for easy applique.
Â
Glue baste quilt to the border before stitching by hand or machine.
